About Us
FSUI in its 65th year of existence comes with long standing track record of working for seafarer’s Rights and Welfare. FSUI has done many successful struggles for seafarers’ rights, wages, working conditions and have achieved milestone results such as “KUMUD BANSAL AWARD” and “PRATIMA UMARJI AWARD”, Presently we have more than 52,000 (plus) active seafarers registered with us, engaged on the Indian/ Foreign Registered ships, including Cruise line ships.
FSUI aims to create a Sustainable Socialist Model between seafarers and shipping companies, whereby seafarers get all their rights such as assured employment, decent wages, good working conditions, and welfare measures such as social security, medical and other wage benefits, post-retirement benefits”, as per International Labour Organization (ILO) standards. OUR STORY
Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI), was established on the 30th of May 1954 at Kolkata. Prior to that, there was no strong organization to fight for seafarers’ rights. In those days Seamen were subjected to inhuman torture, exploitation, and victimization by the shipowners. It was a pathetic state of affairs, improper pay-scales and bad working conditions were the rules of the day. This crisis created anger and resentment amongst seamen. There was a constant desire in them to change this terrible situation by coming together and protesting unitedly. Our Mission
Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI) aims to create a Sustainable Socialist Model between seafarers and shipping companies, whereby seafarers get all their rights such as Decent wages, Good working conditions, Proper employment opportunities and welfare measures such as social security, medical and other wage benefits, post-retirement benefits”, as per International Labour Organization (ILO) standards. FSUI will work unitedly for the sustainable growth of shipping fraternity. We will continue to struggle in the direction to achieve socialist harmony and work hard for the rights and welfare of seafarers. We stand strong against the exploitation done against seafarers across the world.
What FSUI Do
FSUI strives hard to protect the rights and welfare of Seafarers, trying to meticulously resolve every problem brought forward to us at individual as well as policy related level. FSUI also provides guidance to aggrieved seafarers in times of crisis, and arrange following assistance. Read more…
