FSUI has done many successful struggles for seafarers’
rights, wages, working conditions and have achieved milestone results such as “KUMUD BANSAL AWARD” and “PRATIMA UMARJI AWARD”, Presently we have more than 52,000 (plus) active seafarers registered with us, engaged on the Indian/ Foreign Registered ships, including Cruise line ships.
FSUI aims to create a Sustainable Socialist Model between seafarers and shipping companies, whereby seafarers get all their rights such as assured employment, decent wages, good working conditions, and welfare measures such as social security, medical and other wage benefits, post-retirement benefits”, as per International Labour Organization (ILO) standards. FSUI will work unitedly for the sustainable growth of the shipping fraternity.
Our Story
Prior to that, there was no strong organization to fight for seafarers’ rights. In those days Seamen were subjected to inhuman torture, exploitation, and victimization by the shipowners. It was a pathetic state of affairs, improper pay-scales and bad working conditions were the rules of the day. This crisis created anger and resentment amongst seamen. There was a constant desire in them to change this terrible situation by coming together and protesting unitedly.
