Historical All India Strike by Seafarers!

1. Biggest Seafarers Agitation in the history of India
2. Thousands of seafarers across the country participated in the ALL INDIA STRIKE called by forwarding Seamen’s Union of India and All India Retired Seafarer’s Federation on 15th December 2016. The agitation was carried out in the following major states 1.Maharashtra 2.Gujrat 3.West Bengal 4.Andhra Pradesh 5.Kerala 6.Goa 7.Andaman & Nicobar 8.Tamilnadu 9.Orrisa. This was the biggest strike by seafarers in the history of India, many working and retired seafarers along with their families participated in the strike. The strike was also successfully carried out on hundreds of ships by the seafarers for the following demands.
3. Minimum basic wages for the seafarers as per ILO’s Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC 2006).
4. Regular employment for seafarers as per Roaster system as per seamen’s employment office.
5. Family medical scheme for seafarers.
6. Pension of minimum Rs. 5000/- for seafarers.
7. Inquiry in seafarer’s welfare money siphoning scam.
