Dear brother seafarers, please note that the agreement is for 4 years so if 33% decided by 5 years comes to 8% approx. Now speaking about the actual amount of increase today basic of a seaman is Rs.7000/- approx and 8% increase in basic comes to only Rs.550/- approx. So now we request all the seafarers supporting this substandard agreement. Please enquire about salary increments in other available employment options like banking, railways, aviation and compare it with your agreement.
We appeal to all seamen brothers to please ask yourself and your families ARE YOU SATISFIED with this mere increment of Rs.550/- which is not even 2% of total salary that you get (Rs. 30,000-40,000) which even is very less than the minimum salary specified by International Labour Organization in MLC 2006.
